Et tu Kodak?

Well, it happened, Kodak has finally retired it’s infamous
kodachrome transparency film. I remember when I started using it 6 years ago in an attempt to get richer colors in my digital scans. What I got was a pain in my ass. The film is awesomely archival, but, alas, did not translate so well in the Nikon film scanner.
I also remember having to send it off to Kodak and since there were like only two places in the country that developed it, it took a week to get back. Technology comes and technology goes, it’s been happening since the birth of photography. Good night sweet prince.

New Portrait Series
I am taking a step into the unknown world of portraiture with a new project. I don’t want to give details yet, but hopefully I will get enough participants that I can get a nice series out of it.

Creating an Ominous World
©Sean McFarland
Just recently, I stopped by SF Camerawork to check out their current exhibition and I couldn’t help but fall in love with the work of Sean McFarland. Upon first glance, I assumed the images were actual shots of natural disasters and aerial landscapes. The only thing that threw off that assumption was the quite perfect overhead shot of an airplane flying over a body of water. As I looked closer, I began to think, how in the hell did he get that shot? And then I thought, manipulated!
This was my introduction to the interesting world that Sean McFarland has been creating over the past several years. After browsing through the rest of the exhibit and not being particularly impressed by the other works (I must blame this on seeing his work beforehand, honestly), I went home to do a bit of research on his past projects. Let’s just say, I have never seen San Francisco look so interesting. Check out his work: http://www.sean-mcfarland.com/

Polaroid Enthusiasts Unite!
Finally, someone has taken the reins of Polaroid film manufacturing. Hopefully there will be enough enthusiasts out there to keep this business afloat. Stay tuned.

CES 2009

One of the things I absolutely love about going to this show every year is the opportunity to talk shop with many different photographers. Being employed in the tech world as a full time photographer definitely has it’s perks. Everyone is focused on the coolest lenses and tricked out cameras and this year was no different. I had the chance to play aorund with a Tokina 10-17mm zoom fish eye and now I want it.
